Hill House is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Interior Designer / Project Manager to join our team in New York. This role is ideal for someone exceptionally organized, creative, resourceful, and efficient, with the ability to manage multiple moving parts with speed and precision across a range of high-end retail projects. The successful candidate will lead and manage the full design and project delivery process for Hill House Home retail stores in partnership with the Executive Team, overseeing timelines, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring seamless execution from concept through construction. A strong background in construction project management is essential, along with confidence navigating complex schedules, vendor coordination, and on-site decision-making. Experience in retail or commercial design is a plus.
In this role, you will guide and review the work of the design team while maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency. You will be responsible for proactively identifying and communicating any issues or concerns. Close collaboration with project architects, contractors, and consultants during the construction phase is critical. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This candidate is comfortable balancing competing deadlines while maintaining clear, consistent communication at every stage of a project. This is an in-office position based in New York. While projects are located nationwide, regular travel will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead projects from inception to completion, working closely alongside Executive Team, ensuring adherence to the project timeline, budget, and quality standards
- Create comprehensive design schemes and furniture plans for all spaces including specification of textiles, furnishings, tile, plumbing, etc
- Develop and manage project schedules, including task assignments, related consultants, and deadlines for multiple projects
- Oversee the customization process of upholstery, window treatment fabrication and furniture lines with an understanding of all related materials and their appropriate uses, trade-offs in terms of durability, price-points, etc
- Coordinate and collaborate with architects, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution
- Build proposals and execute orders, ensuring quality control and timely vendor payments.
- 3+ years of relevant design experience illustrated through a portfolio showcasing projects at various stages of the design process, including construction and design details.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
- Proficiency in design and rendering software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Comprehensive understanding of architectural drawings and the construction process.
- Extensive knowledge of construction materials [tiles, stone slabs, paint, etc.] including all major brands of plumbing fixtures, appliances, lighting, fabric, wallpaper, carpet, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of appropriate sources such as fabric and furniture lines.
- Familiarity with antiques and sourcing.
- Attention to detail and a strong sense of the Hill House aesthetic.
- Efficient and effective communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills.
- Strong work ethic shown through punctuality, dedication, and reliability.
- Experience in construction project management or a similar role centered on organization and attention to detail.
